What the worlds of a BI Consultant and an Agile Coach have to do with each other
We employ Data Engineers, Cloud Developers, Azure Architects, BI Consultants, as well as Agile Coaches, Scrum Masters and Business Analysts. ''I am one of those BI colleagues,'' says Stephan. ''I joined TeamValue because I believe in a club with like-minded people and in development. In not getting stuck in what you've been doing for years, but in collaboration between business and IT. Now I hear you thinking... BI Consultant and Agile Coach? Let me explain how that came about.
After years of experience in technology and the constantly changing world, the question is not whether you can still develop technically but more the question of when and in what. I actually always work in DevOps teams. Until one day I was asked if I wouldn't enjoy the challenge of supporting the teams in which I normally work as a Coach and from a process perspective. Exciting? Yes! A mega cool experience? It certainly was! From TeamValue I immediately got confidence to take this opportunity and so far it is a nice challenge and an enrichment of my work as a Consultant. Both technical and non-technical. You quickly recognize situations that teams are in from your own experience, which allows you to switch quickly. And where necessary I have a safety net of Agile Coaches at TeamValue with whom I can spar well.
Whereas before I was part of the team and signaling, now I am really involved in the change myself. Both roles also feel very natural. So anyone who worries about whether or not I'm getting out of technology. I'm definitely not getting out of technology, but I'm not ruling out continuing to do my development and coaching work side by side.
Whatever position you hold these days. You read more and more about the T-shaped professional. Moral of the story? Which skills do you want to develop in depth and in breadth? Which ones at the subject level and which ones at the soft skill level?
T-shaped professional? Advancement at TeamValue is fixed, how you do it is up to you
You consciously or unconsciously immediately have a different position within a project. Whether it came naturally? In the beginning it took a bit of guts, I must say. Once started, you notice that people are open and honest from the very first moment. After all, they themselves want change and improvement. That is nice to see and feel. It actually feels like a logical step to continue growing in my soft skills and coaching skills. They saw that very well here at TeamValue.
Actually, I make sure that we also implement our best practices and our Golden Path outside TeamValue. We help organizations with an architecture that is future-proof and our agile way of working, which they can continue with even after we leave. I think that's really cool!
So I am currently working in two different roles. As a BI Consultant with one client and as an Agile Coach with the other client. My main learning goals for this year? Addressing people, making choices, taking on even more responsibility and mentoring teams and juniors internally. The question here is not whether you are going to advance but more which way and when you pick up the gauntlet that is handed to you. Usually you get a growth path to nice work, but here I am doing nice things from day 1 and that is quite unique and I did not expect it.
We sometimes say: when you come to work here you will go through your own ceiling. After two years, I can say that this really is true. At first I never gave it much thought, but these experiences have greatly broadened my view of work.
