The Role of Cloud Engineer - In conversation with Jaap
Meet Jaap. Two years ago he became part of our Ohana in the role of Cloud Engineer. In the meantime, he has experienced tremendous growth and has become an indispensable part of our Cloud team. Wondering how he likes his role at TeamValue? Then read on quickly.
Tell me, who are you? My name is Jaap Meems. As a Cloud Engineer, I am currently working on the TTH project at RDW. This includes the implementation of temporary toll collection for a brand new tunnel. A project with a variety of tasks. From developing new features to thinking along about optimizing processes and security.
Poker during working hours
My day starts with a good cup of coffee followed by the daily stand-up. Within RDW, we work according to the Agile-Scrum methodology with a sprint change day every three weeks filled with new challenges, looking back on tasks and a refinement. And yes; we also play poker. A game element we apply to the Agile-Scrum methodology to encourage behavior change and motivation. Just let our team be ahead of the curve. We love that 😉
The business in control
As a Cloud Engineer at TeamValue, I know a little bit about everything. From development in C# to mastering Azure pipelines. But it goes beyond that, because as a consultant I am also expected to give my opinion, solicited and unsolicited. Really helping the customer one step further driven on the value axis. That is what we actively focus on at TeamValue. Both internally and externally.
From TeamValue, we always drive behavioral change at the customer. This is because we believe in the fact that the business must be in control. The team at RWD has already mastered this quite well with the 'doing the right things' principle. Together with the Product Owner, we determine the value per sprint and dare to adjust it if necessary. After all, it is all about delivering value, not about ticking off your to-do list.
Approachable and no-nonsense
TeamValue is a warm, fanatical and no-nonsense organization. With a clear goal, where the customer and employees are central. It is a club where I am challenged, both in the jobs I do, and in my personal growth. You are not a number here, you are a valued member of the company. You are encouraged to grow, dare to make mistakes and learn from them. This results in a generic growth of the company and the energy we convey to the customer. We don't say "Stand out, be a flamingo" for nothing. So you have to have some guts to come work here.
From zero to Azure hero
When I started at TeamValue, I had virtually no knowledge of Azure, CI/CD, etc. In the two years that I have been working at TeamValue these skills have greatly improved through the various jobs I have had the opportunity to do. By now I already have a large part of my certificates in my pocket! I am very happy with this development. On to even more growth!
